WOW BLOG Mary or Martha By Tabatha Rutherford

  • by

Yesterday as I was sitting on the couch curling up by my snuggle buddy as she still continues to heal I heard that small still voice “ She chose”. Not long after hearing those words I immediately thought of Mary and Martha.

Where am I going with this? So glad you asked! My kitchen is a mess. As I continued to care for Gracie I also spent a lot of time in Gods word and a few other Christian books to pass my time by until I had to lift Gracie up and carry her out to go potty. There was a moment I would stare off at the mess and get a bit frustrated and have a Martha “thought “ moment. Business and cleaning and a little bit complaining. I would have a little chat with Jesus and thank Him that I’m able to care for Gracie today. I’d choose to continue to spend time with Him learning so much more in serving and gaining the Wisdom and knowledge He gave.

If you are in a moment like that, you know wanting to clean first or fix things in the home first, you see others not helping out like Martha, wanting to clean up and to work before spending time with Jesus, complaining of lack of help, make a choice today to sit at Jesus feet like Mary. Spiritual nourishment is more important than cleaning that mess or fixing this shelf. It may have been 7 in the evening when I cleaned everything and went to bed later than normal, but the feeling I got when I took that time to care properly for Gracie and building the relationship with Jesus, I was wide awake, happy and thankful. I still sang praises and visited my daughter and my grandson which gave me a slight break from sitting by Gracie. God is good and the more time I get, I’m thankful!

What will you choose today or tomorrow or perhaps this coming weekend?

41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41-42.
