“Birthright by Force.” Studying the word defile, I imagine something pretty rotten or bad. Biblical definition: “To be made dirty or unclean.” Daniel (Dan 1:8-10) decided in his heart to maintain a pure life for God with no compromise. I admire his strength of character.
One day while handling a business transaction, I found myself in a compromised position. My mind echoed, it’s okay just this once. You know the rest of any story that begins with a compromise, SETUP. Although we criticize others, all of us face related temptations every day. No matter who you are, nearby are buddies, co-workers, business acquaintances, and possibly family members who will attempt to convince to lay aside what’s right for wrong. Once people figure out what arouses YOU, whether it’s money, power, popularity, opportunities, etc., YOU will swing open the door of compromise just once for something you need or desire. Compromise is tough once, less difficult twice, not a problem three or more times. My grandmother told me, “If you lie, you will cheat. If you cheat, you will steal. If you steal, you are going to jail or he–.”
In tough times, feeling desperate for something can make it effortless to compromise, Dan 1:8-10. Pray for God’s wisdom who knows your weaknesses. Stay mindful of anyone or any situation tempting you to compromise or deny your birthright, Gen 25:34.
